NEW YORK — With the New York Yankees’ decision to use a four-man rotation against Texas or Tampa Bay in the AL championship series, Phil Hughes lines up to pitch Games 3 and 7.

Last year, the Yankees became the first team to win the World Series with only three postseason starters since the 1991 Minnesota Twins.

But in March, Major League Baseball and the players’ association eliminated the off day between Games 4 and 5 of the LCS.

And more schedule changes could be in store for 2011: With the playoffs slated to start on Sept. 30 or Oct. 1, and the World Series beginning Oct. 19, one of the two off days in each division series could be eliminated, a person familiar with the scheduling said Monday, speaking on condition of anonymity because talks are ongoing.
