Woman injured on breakwater rescued

ROCKLAND, Maine — A woman who injured her leg on the Rockland Breakwater on Saturday evening was carried a third of a mile by Rockland fire and EMS rescue crews and then taken to the mainland on the police boat.

The woman, whose name was not released Sunday morning, was hurt at about 7 p.m.

After the Rockland Police Department’s boat landed on the mainland, she was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport by Rockland EMS.

Lt. Jamie Leo of the Rockland Fire Department could not provide further information about her condition.

The Rockland Breakwater, which extends nearly a mile into the harbor to the Rockland Breakwater Light, is made of uneven granite slabs.
