Minnelli cancels concert in Portland, Maine

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — Singer Liza Minnelli has canceled a concert in Portland because of an illness.

The Portland mayor had expected to present the singer with a key to the city after her performance at Merrill Auditorium on Wednesday night.

But Portland Ovations said that Minnelli fell ill before her afternoon sound check and could not perform as scheduled.

The 64-year-old Minnelli was expected to sing her greatest hits and material from new CD, “Confessions,” to kick off the 80th season of Portland Ovations.

The Portland Press Herald says Portland Ovations is hoping to reschedule the concert and is requesting that ticket holders wait for further information.

Organizers say there’s no information on the condition of Minnelli, who was on her way back to New York City.
