Fair to offer valet parking for bicycles

UNITY — The Bicycle Coalition of Maine is partnering with the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association to organize and promote valet bicycle parking at the Common Ground Country Fair Sept. 24-26.

Fair-goers who arrive on bicycle will have a safe, convenient place to store their bikes, and they get a $2 discount on admission.

People who live too far away to bike the whole way can park at a midway point and then hop onto their bicycles. A map on the Bicycle Coalition of Maine’s website, www.BikeMaine.org, shows park and pedal lots and bicycle-friendly routes beginning three to 12 miles from the fair.

During the fair, the coalition will offer an opportunity to try riding unusual bikes, as well as miniworkshops on topics such as flat tire repair and bike commuting. Coalition volunteers organize a colorful, human-powered vehicle parade each day of the fair.
