Springfield rolls past Husson

  BANGOR  — The Springfield College Pride rushed for 459 yards en route to a 51-0 football victory over the Husson University Eagles at the Winkin  Complex Saturday.

Husson dipped to 0-2 while Springfield improved to 2-0.

After Husson held Springfield scoreless in the first quarter, the Pride erupted for  two second-quarter touchdowns as quarterback Josh Carter scored on a 6-yard run and Alex Mendez added a 3-yard rushing TD with 2:16 left.

Antoine King returned a punt 91 yards early in the third quarter for Springfield and the Pride added another three points on a field goal to up their lead to 24-0 and Husson could not answer as the Pride continued to roll up more points.
   For the Pride, Antoine King rushed for 125 yards on five carries, followed by Mendez with 104 yards and 20 carries.  Husson’s Byron Jackson managed 39 yards on 12 carries. Quarterback Josh Carter totaled 73 yards and one touchdown for Springfield while Husson’s Jack Hersom completed 4 of 12 attempts for 40 yards.
     Defensively, Tom Hersom led the Eagles with 6.5 tackles, followed by Vanidestine with 6.0.  Chris Kulcsar recorded 8 tackles and one sack for Springfield.
