BANGOR, Maine — A local man was arrested after brandishing a knife at his neighbors shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday.
Before his arrest, Robert Hoop, 39, of Bangor reportedly had been banging on the walls of the hallway in the Ohio Street apartment building he lives in, Bangor police Sgt. Jim Buckley said Sunday evening, citing a police report.
Buckley said that the neighbors said they initially thought that a fight of some sort was in progress. When they came out in the hall to ask what the ruckus was about, Hoop, who was alone in the hallway, pulled out a folding knife. The neighbors returned to their apartment and locked the door.
Hoop went into his apartment, which is where police arrested him on a charge of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, Buckley said. The police report indicates that Hoop was intoxicated at the time.
As of Sunday night, Hoop remained at Penobscot County Jail.
