BREWER, Maine — The driver of a white minivan hit a utility pole on State Street at around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, ripping down power and utility lines and forcing closure of the road to vehicle traffic while repairs were completed, said Brewer police Sgt. Arden Jones.

“I don’t think there was any injury and not much damage to the vehicle,” he said.

Amanda Pitcher, 22, of Stetson was driving a 2010 Dodge Caravan on State Street when she apparently got distracted and hit the pole, located near the entrance to the Brewer Auditorium.

“The pole was pretty much destroyed,” Brewer police Officer Edwards Willey said.

Pitcher and her female passenger were not injured, and the minivan only had cosmetic damage, he said.

The roadway between Highland Avenue and the auditorium was closed to vehicle traffic while repair crews from Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. repaired the damage.

“Bangor Hydro did a fantastic job and responded really quickly and got the pole replaced,” Willey said.

One lane of traffic was opened just before 11 a.m., and the roadway was opened completely at around noon.
