ALEXANDER, Maine — A tractor-trailer carrying a load of herring went off Route 9, crashed into trees and rolled over Thursday night.
According to the Maine State Police communications center in Orono, the truck spilled the herring and also was leaking up to 200 gallons of diesel fuel.
The driver was not injured but the dispatcher said the road was going to be shut down to one lane late Thursday night to remove the truck.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection and the Maine Department of Transportation were notified of the spill and the Alexander Fire Department went to the scene of the accident.
It was unknown at press time who owned the truck or what caused the crash. Several Maine State Police troopers also went to the scene.
