Senate bill includes Moosehead plant funds

Bangor Daily News

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Local officials learned this week that $1 million for the redevelopment of the former Moosehead Manufacturing plant in Dover-Foxcroft has been included in a Senate bill.

If approved, the funds would be used to make infrastructure improvements to the 85,000-square-foot plant, which became tax-acquired in March 2009. The town deeded the property over to the nonprofit Pine Crest Business Park in Dover-Foxcroft, which is spearheading the redevelopment of the property.

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, was able to include the funds in the fiscal year 2011 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Senate Appropriations bill, according to a press release issued Wednesday by Collins.

The bill was approved Wednesday by the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development. The bill now must be approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee before it can be considered by the full Senate.

“This funding will allow Dover-Foxcroft to continue its ongoing redevelopment of the site into a usable space that could house future businesses,” Collins said in the release. “The town’s efforts will help provide a needed boost in economic activity in the downtown area.”
