Campers rescued from Lake Cobbosee after boat flips

The Associated Press

WINTHROP, Maine — Four teenagers and their camp counselor were injured when their motor boat capsized on Lake Cobbosee in Winthrop.

The five from Camp All-Star were rescued Monday morning.

Authorities say one of the teens was learning to operate the boat when he pulled the power lever down too fast, sending the boat into a nosedive. One of the teens was ejected from the boat before it tipped over.

The Central Maine Morning Sentinel of Waterville said the Maine Warden Service and local fire and police crews pulled the five from the water and righted the boat.

Authorities say the campers — ages 15 to 18 — had lacerations on their arms and legs.

Officials said one camper was wearing a life jacket but more life preservers were on board.
