GOULDSBORO, Maine — A fire of undetermined origin destroyed a Gouldsboro Point Road home on Thursday afternoon.
A call came into the Fire Department at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday reporting the blaze at the home of Kevin Scully.
“The flames had burned through the roof before we arrived on the scene,” said Fire Chief Robert Harmon.
Dave Fenderson, a passerby who, along with another motorist, discovered the blaze, said he saw the flames as he drove by the single-family home.
“The flames were coming out of the gable end of the roof at that time,” he said.
Harmon said there was no one home at the time of the fire and no one was injured. The fire, however, destroyed the home, he said.
“It was falling in on itself when we arrived,” he said. “It’s a total loss, the building and the contents.”
Harmon said he had not determined the cause of the blaze or where the fire started.
“There’s so much damage, it’s hard to tell,” he said.
The fire remains under investigation and inspectors from the State Fire Marshal’s Office have been called in to help determine a cause.
Harmon said the family lost everything in the fire.
“All they have is the clothes on their backs,” he said.
The American Red Cross is helping the family with temporary housing, he said.
Gouldsboro firefighters were assisted at the scene by crews from Winter Harbor, Sorrento, Sullivan and Steuben.
