BELFAST, Maine — A Belfast man turned himself in to police Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest on four charges of possession of sexually explicit materials.
A Waldo County Sheriff’s Office detective has been investigating Michael Hernandez, 23, since the beginning of March.
“We had information that he had some sexually explicit photographs of young males,” said Chief Deputy Bob Keating.
Police seized a computer from Hernandez’s home and sent it to the Maine State Police Crime Lab.
Officials found photographs of young males under age 16, Keating said. There was no indication that any of the young males were from Belfast.
Detective Merl Reed obtained a warrant for Hernandez’s arrest on June 2. After Hernandez turned himself in, he was booked at Waldo County Jail on Friday afternoon, with bail set at $500 cash for the charges of possession of sexually explicit materials.
Hernandez also had bail set at $350 cash for a previous warrant on failure to appear in court to answer to charges of theft of lost or mislaid property.
