Machias woman announces candidacy for District 32 seat

MACHIAS, Maine — Katherine Cassidy of Machias has announced she is a Democratic candidate for the District 32 seat in the Maine House of Representatives.

District 32 includes Cutler, Eastport, Lubec, Machias, Machiasport, Roque Bluffs, Trescott and Whiting.

Cassidy said in a prepared statement that she “believes Washington County’s landscape can be improved through a focus on jobs, tourism, green energy development and fisheries.”

“I am a communicator, and I am known to build connections among people,” she said in the statement. “Because I believe so much in Washington County, I want to be the link that works between Washington County and Augusta. I believe in accountability, responsibility and effective oversight.”

Cassidy has worked as director of public relations at the University of Maine at Machias and as a Washington County reporter for the Bangor Daily News. She is a member of the Machias School Committee and of the board of directors for the Down East Sunrise Trail, the Eastport Arts Center and the Cobscook Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. She also is active with the Machias Downtown Revitalization Committee and the Washington County Food and Fuel Alliance.
