PORTLAND, Maine — As the climate bill was unveiled in Washington, a poll in Maine shows that residents strongly support the development of wind power.
The Critical Insights survey of 600 residents indicates 6 out of 10 respondents strongly support wind power, while only 10 percent of respondents are against it.
The poll also showed that 72 percent of respondents want Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins to vote for legislation aimed at promoting clean energy and reducing the threat of climate change.
A wind power opposition group noted that wind power support declined by a few points. Steve Thurston from the Citizen’s Task Force on Wind Power says he expects support to continue to erode as people learn more about the large-scale turbine projects proposed for Maine.
