Woman arrested on terrorizing charge after dog dispute

NORTHPORT, Maine — A dispute over a dog Tuesday night led to the arrest of a Northport woman on charges of domestic violence terrorizing and violation of a protection order.

According to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, Regina E. Cates, 49, and her former boyfriend still were sharing a home and the situation has led to some tension.

“Apparently, her dog likes to crap on his bedroom floor,” said Lt. Jason Trundy. “This is causing some stress in their relationship. … We’ve dealt with this particular issue before.”

Deputy James Greeley said in his report that when he arrived at the home at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, he heard Cates threatening her ex-boyfriend with violence.

That led to the arrest on the domestic violence terrorizing charge, police said, and when Cates called someone to make arrangements to pick up her dog, she phoned a person who has an active protection order against her, which led to the second charge.

Cates was taken by police to the Waldo County Jail in Belfast, from which she had been released by Wednesday afternoon.
