Man injured in 2-vehicle collision in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Maine — One person was injured in a two-car collision Monday afternoon at the Four Corners intersection on Route 1.

Maine State Police Trooper Michael Southard said Valerie Peasley, 48, of Roque Bluffs was westbound on Route 1 when she attempted to turn her 2005 Ford Excursion left onto Abattoir Way. She did not see a pickup truck approaching on a hill that leads into the intersection and struck it head-on.

Clyde Yeaton, 72, of Steuben, the driver of the 1998 Chevrolet pickup, was taken by ambulance to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth for treatment of minor injuries, Southard said.

Peasley complained of pain but did not seek medical treatment at the scene, the trooper said.

Southard said both people were wearing seat belts, and speed did not appear to be a factor.

β€œIt is hard to see people coming up over that hill,”’ he said of the intersection.

Weather was not a factor in the accident, Southard said, but he warned that people need to take extra care with visibility on dark, dreary days.

Southard said no one was charged in the accident. Damage to the vehicles was extensive.
