CALAIS – Alice Viola Williams, 90, went home to be with our Lord Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, after a long illness. Alice was born July 21, 1919, in Baileyville, daughter of the late Arthur and Eileen (Johnson) Gaddis. She attended Baileyville schools and served her country in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. Alice owned and operated a boarding home in Calais for many years. Her home was open to all in need. She was a faithful member of Calais United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Alice was predeceased by her loving husband, Orland Williams in 1984; as well as two sisters, Shirley Gaddis and Ruth McLaughlin; and a daughter-in-law, Jeannette (Crowe) Williams. Surviving are her daughter, Peggy Rayner and her husband, Dan, of Fort Kent; two sons, Richard Williams of Talmadge and Joseph Williams and his wife, Vera, of Richmond, Va.; sister, Gloria Smith of Baileyville; brother, Raymond Gaddis of Calais; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held noon-2 p.m. Saturday at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where a funeral service will begin 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be afterward at Waite-Talmadge Cemetery.
