HOLLISTON, Mass. – Wilfred I. Butterfield III, O.D., 62, beloved husband and father, passed away unexpectedly Feb. 22, 2010, while on vacation. For the past 35 years, Dr. Butterfield had practiced optometry in his office at 841 Washington St., Holliston, Mass. Dr. Butterfield was married to his loving wife, Christine Swift Butterfield, for 37 wonderful years. His daughters, Melissa Butterfield West of Hamden, Conn., and Amy Elizabeth Butterfield of Newton, Mass., take great solace in the fact that their wonderful dad was with the love of his life when he passed away. The son of late Elizabeth M. and Wilfred I. Butterfield Jr., M.D. of Lincoln, Dr. Butterfield graduated from Mattanawcook Academy in 1965; the University of Maine, Orono, in 1969 and the New England College of Optometry in 1973. Dr. Butterfield is survived by his wife, Christine; two daughters, Melissa West and her husband, Alan, and Amy and her fiance, Chris Levasseur; two sisters, Elizabeth B. Webster of Cape Elizabeth and Audrey B. Knight of Harpswell; brother-in-law, Robert Swift of Townsend, Mass.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at Chesmore Funeral Home, 854 Washington St., Holliston, Mass. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, March 1, at First Congregational Church, 725 Washington St., Holliston, Mass.
