OAKFIELD – Violet Mildred White, 85, wife of the late Ernest J. “Buck” White, passed away Feb. 24, 2010, at a Houlton nursing facility after an extended illness. She was born Oct. 23, 1924, in Merrill, the daughter of Roy A. and Ella E. (Cassidy) Bragdon. She attended Merrill schools and married Ernest J. “Buck” White, in 1940. She was a member of Bethel Pentecostal Church, Oakfield, and enjoyed and participated in the church ladies group. She greatly enjoyed her family and quilting. Mildred will be greatly missed by her close knit family who learned to love and appreciate the family atmosphere from their mom. All of the grandchildren will always remember the mittens, quilts and Grammie’s molasses cookies. We will miss you, Mom. In addition to her parents, Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Buck, in 1990; one son, Donnis White, in 2006; one daughter, Dorothy White; two brothers and one sister. She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest R. “Pete” and Linda White of Springfield, Mo., Hiram M. and Joan White of Wallingford, Conn., Phillip L. and Penny White of Dyer Brook, Steven W. and Ruby White of Smyrna, and Harris D. and Patti White of Oakfield; three daughters and a son-in-law, Dolphine “Sissy” White of Smyrna, Ella E. and Carl Smith of Oakfield, and Virginia M. Tucker of Smyrna; one brother, Reggie Bragdon of Brownville; one sister, Rita Burpee of Smyrna; a daughter-in-law, Barbara White of Merrill; 23 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at Bethel Pentecostal Church, Oakfield, where funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Sterling Lawrence officiating. Spring interment will be at Merrill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in Mildred’s memory to Bethel Pentecostal Church Youth Program, P.O. Box 280, Oakfield, ME 04763.
