FORT KENT and FRENCHVILLE – Alphie L. Roy, 87, died peacefully Feb. 25, 2010, surrounded by his family at Northern Maine Medical Center, Fort Kent. He was born Aug. 11, 1922, in Fort Kent, the son of Lezime and Anaise (Caron) Roy. Alphie belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Lozier O’Grady Post No. 9609, Fort Kent. Alphie was in the U.S. Army where he served in Germany with the 343rd Engineer Battalion as a truck driver. His life before and after the service was farming; for Alphie, farming was his life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sylvia (Gervais) Roy of Fort Kent; his six children, Jeannine and her husband, Lorenzo Caron, of Fort Kent, Pauline and her husband, Tom Collin, of Frenchville, James Roy of Fort Kent, John and his wife, Cindy Roy, of Fort Kent, Marilyn and her husband, Guilmond Belanger, of Lac Baker, New Brunswick, Alan and his wife, Jennifer Roy, of Fort Kent; 11 grandchildren, Liza and her husband, Ryan, Soyna and her husband, Steve, Lorenza, Patrick, Julie, Jenna, Dustin, Morgan, Kristen, Samantha and Elizabeth; five great-grandchildren, Carter, Camden, Brayden, Reese and Melissa; one brother, Alva and his wife, Patricia Roy, of Middletown, Conn.; two sisters, Wellena Saucier of Fort Kent and Alpheda Saucier of Newington, Conn.; one sister-in-law, Carmella Roy of Fort Kent; many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by four brothers-in-law and their wives, and eight sisters-in-law and their husbands. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 8-9:30 a.m. Monday until time of service at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Frenchville. Spring burial will be held at the parish cemetery.
