PITTSFIELD – Earl S. Dean, 86, died Feb. 22, 2010, at his home after a short period of ill health. Earl was born June 8, 1923, in Mexico, the son of Earl S. and Ann M. (Carlisle) Dean Sr. He was a graduate of Brewer High School, Class of 1941. Earl was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the South Pacific. He married Patricia Byrnes in Dorchester, Mass., May 23, 1945. For 25 years Earl was employed as a stationary engineer for Western Electric, North Andover, Mass. Earl was a member of First Congregational Church, Pittsfield. He was a member of Meridian Masonic Lodge, Greater Pittsfield Area Kiwanis, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Pittsfield. Earl always kept busy and he did this by being a volunteer for his community. He was a Salvation Army volunteer, serving as the welfare secretary for more than 25 years; he operated Pittsfield Christmas Project and Pittsfield Food Pantry for 26 years, still taking an active part until his passing. Earl was honored for his volunteer work to his community and surrounding towns with a Jefferson Award, Sebasticook Valley Chamber of Commerce Volunteer Award, and Greater Pittsfield Area Kiwanis Volunteer Award. Earl is survived by his loving wife and partner of 64 years, Patricia M. Dean of Pittsfield; one son, Earl S. Dean III and his wife, Sandra, of Woburn, Mass.; one daughter and her husband, Katherine and Lawrence Kehoe of Pittsfield; two sisters, Susan Vlount and Imogene Lynch, both of New Jersey; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 24 High St., Newport. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Mary Angela Davis officiating. Spring internment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterville.
