EAST MACHIAS, Maine — Republicans from 33 Washington County towns will caucus at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, in the cafeteria of Washington Academy on Route 191.

The communities participating in the countywide caucus are: Addison, Baileyville, Beals, Calais, Charlotte, Cherryfield, Columbia, Columbia Falls, Cooper, Cutler, Dennysville, East Machias, Eastport, Edmunds Township, Grand Lake Stream, Harrington, Lubec, Jonesboro, Jonesport, Machias, Machiasport, Marshfield, Mil-bridge, Northfield, Pembroke, Perry, Pleasant Point, Robbinston, Steuben, Waite, Wesley, Whiting and Whitneyville.

Republican gubernatorial candidates Steve Abbott, Bill Beardsley, Paul LePage, Matt Jacobson, Peter Mills and Bruce Poliquin are expected to address the gathering. County Commissioner Chris Gardner, chairman of the Washington County Republican Committee, will emcee the gubernatorial program.

State Sen. Kevin Raye, R-Perry, Rep. Howard McFadden, R-Dennysville, Rep. David Burns, R-Whiting, Rep. Everett McLeod, R-Lee, Rep. Dianne Tilton, R-Harrington, and County Commissioner John Crowley, R-Addison, will be on hand. All are seeking re-election this year.

Also expected to attend are the two GOP candidates for the open seat in House District 30: Dean Ingham of Robbinston and Joyce Maker of Calais, as well as sheriff candidate Dale Earle of Calais and district attorney candidate Donald Brown of Bucksport.

Republicans from towns not caucusing on Feb. 28 are welcome to attend. Under Republican Party rules, any town not participating in the countywide caucus is eligible to hold its own GOP caucus anytime before March 20.
