Congress will ask the head of each of the nation’s military service branches whether it is time to repeal the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy about being gay while in the military. Will the service heads support allowing gays to serve openly? Should they? Would allowing gays to serve openly disrupt the military? What bad outcomes might be imagined? Or is

allowing gays to serve similar to integrating those of African descent in the military(which was accomplished 60 years ago)? Has the nation become more accepting of gays since the issue sharply divided Congress in the early 1990s during President Bill Clinton’s first term?
