SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Leslie “JitterBug” Frank White Jr., 88, died Feb. 18, 2010, in Southwest Harbor. He was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Southwest Harbor, the son of Leslie F. and Aguie R. (Richardson) White Sr. Leslie was the parts manager from 1946 to 1977 and owner and operator from 1977 to 1982 of Gordon & White Garage. Les enjoyed music and in 1941-1948 he started the six-piece band known as the “Les White Rhythm Band,” his hobby for life. In 1948-1954 this band was a novelty band and played for many dances, and in recent years played at many of the local nursing homes. In 1960 Leslie was instrumental in raising money for a new ambulance for Northeast Harbor/ Southwest Harbor and the Tremont area. With Leslie’s help the quality of ambulance service is as you see it today. Leslie is survived by one sister, Katherine Littlefield of Bangor; one nephew, Boyington Stanley and wife, Joyce, of Trenton; one niece, Betty Wheaton and husband, Edward, of Gardiner; and a very close friend, Lillian Norwood of Town Hill. He was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle L. White; a brother, Russell B. White; and by three sisters, Ida Lockhart, Pauline Curran and Marjorie Parriett.
