MILBRIDGE – Earl Kenneth Fickett went to be with the Lord Feb. 18, 2010, in Milbridge. He was born July 6, 1922, in Cherryfield, to Bernard and Abbie (Harrington) Fickett. He attended schools in Cherryfield and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1939, stationed in Southwest Harbor and Camden, working in Park Service. He married Dorothy Eldridge in 1943, moving to Lincolnville, where he worked at Camden Shipyard. They moved back to Milbridge and lived there the remainder of their lives. Earl worked in forestry for many years and was a school bus driver for SAD 37 and Sumner High School for many years. He worked at Washing Hancock Community Agencym and also enjoyed cutting and selling wood from his wood lot at home in his retirement. He is survived by his daughter, Jeanette and her husband, Larry Smith, of Winter Harbor; grandson, Larry Smith Jr. of Winter Harbor; granddaughter, Nancy Pike and her husband, Douglas, of Winslow; and great-grandchildren, Derek Smith of Winter Harbor and Elizabeth and Laura Pike of Winslow. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Fickett of Cherryfield; a half brother, Bernard Jr. of Addison; a brother-in-law, Douglas Eldridge of Milbridge; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy in 2006; his parents, and 10 brothers and sisters. The family thanks Marie Vandergrift and her wonderful team for the excellent care given to Dad during his last days, and also a special thank you to James Dufour for being a caring friend throughout his illness. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Milbridge. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, at First Baptist Church, Cherryfield.
