MOUNT DESERT – Madeline E. Krommenohl, 87, passed away Feb. 16, 2010, at Mount Desert Island Hospital. She was born June 25, 1922, in Morristown, N.J. She met her beloved husband and lifelong companion, Arnold, in Newark, N.J., where they married Aug. 31, 1940. They moved to Maine in 1968 and built a house together in Castine. In 1969 they moved to Blue Hill, where they owned and operated Blue Hill Greenhouses. Madeline loved working with plants and flowers, and became a talented florist. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, baking and sewing. She was a member of Rebekah’s Lodge of Blue Hill and enjoyed the community for many years. In 1982 when Arnold retired from Jackson Laboratory, they moved to Pretty Marsh on Mount Desert Island, and spent many happy retirement years together. She is survived by her husband, Arnold; and daughters, Linda Suter of Sun City, Ariz., Kandice Krommenohl of North Bergen, N.J., Anne Haynes and her husband, Bill, of Tremont and Eve Young and her husband, Nate, of Pretty Marsh. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Nick, Mike, Karl, Matthew, Bill Jr., Jessica, Christine, Autumn, Ashley and Britta; as well as two great-grandchildren, Jadelyn and Emory Madeline. The family expresses their gratitude for the compassion and care shown by the nurses, doctors and technicians and Mount Desert Island Hospital.
