BROWNVILLE – Helen S. Pennington, 96, wife of the late Kenneth W. Pennington, died Feb. 16, 2010, surrounded by her family, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born Nov. 14, 1913, in Brownville, the oldest daughter of Harry F. and Catherine (Ellis) Stone. A 1931 graduate of Brownville High School, she and Kenneth were married June 24, 1936, at Brownville Community Church. Helen worked for many years at Lewis Co. and retired from P.C.I., Jan. 22, 1976. She was a member of the Welfare Club, Brownville High School Alumni Association, and a former member of Resolute Grange No. 188, all in Brownville. She attended Brownville Community Church. One of Helen’s greatest joys was babysitting and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. She is the beloved mother and grandmother of three children and their families: Fred Pennington and his wife, Lucretia, of Bradford and their children, John Ewer, Shane Pennington and Shawn Pennington; David Pennington and his wife, Helen, of Brownville Junction and their children, Alan Pennington, Derek Pennington and Tammy Gray; and Rosemary Chase and her late husband, Jerome, of Williamsburg and their children, Kim Robinson and Craig Chase. She will be lovingly remembered by 15 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Janette Stone of Attleboro, Mass.; many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by an infant son, Carroll; two brothers, Edward and David Stone; and a sister, Jane Buckley. Friends are invited to call 11 a.m. until the time of funeral service 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with the Rev. Ann Purdy officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the family lot at Brownville Village Cemetery.
