BANGOR, Maine – It wasn’t the prettiest of wins, but Calais boys basketball coach Ed Leeman will take it.

Even though his second-ranked Blue Devils committed 14 turnovers Tuesday, three Calais players scored in double figures, led by Cam Shorey’s 20 as the defending Class C state champions defeated No. 7 Madawaska 61-42 at the Bangor Auditorium.

The 17-2 Blue Devils will face No. 3 Lee Academy in Friday’s semifinals while Madawaska finishes the season 13-6.

Shorey, who also hauled down 10 rebounds, scored 10 first-quarter points as Calais built a 24-11 lead that was never seriously threatened.

Madawaska got no closer than 10.

Josh Gillespie posted 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals while Jeremy Carr had 17 points for Calais.

Madawaska was paced by Deejay Gendreau’s 16 points.
