HERMON – Harold L. “Hal” Mailman, 83, died Feb. 14, 2010, surrounded by his family after a short illness. He was born Dec. 3, 1926, in Gowganda, Ontario, the son of Clyde and Verna Mailman. Harold was a teacher, coach and vocational school administrator, ending a distinguished career as president of Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, Presque Isle. After retirement he served as Adult Ed director at Husson College and with his son-in-law, Les Hunsinger, started MHR Sheet Metal, serving as president until 1999. Hal was an active community member, serving on Hermon Town Council, and was a member of Hammond Street Congregational Church and Rotary Club International. He held a life membership in the American Vocational Association and is listed in the 1973-1974 edition of Outstanding Educators in America. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, the Red Sox, and most of all, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Hal was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Beatrice Mailman. He is survived by three children, Raymond and his wife, Pamela, of Houlton, Deanne and her husband, Butch Greenlaw Jr., of Alexander and Cynthia and her husband, Les Hunsinger, of Hermon; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond, Earle and his wife, Georgette, all of Saco, and Gearld and his wife, Francis, of Portland; several nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be announced at a later date.
