Early morning fire damages Levant home

LEVANT, Maine — An early morning fire at a home on Hodgdon Road in Levant is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Lt. Steve Burgess with the Levant Fire Department said the call came in soon after 4:30 a.m. Monday.

When crews arrived within 10 minutes, fire was visible through the front door, he said.

Crews from eight communities battled the flames and knocked them down quickly, Burgess said. The home had some smoke and water damage, but the structure was left intact.

The cause and origin of the fire had not been determined late Monday morning, but Burgess said the Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate. He declined to say whether the fire was considered suspicious.

A man and a woman and their adult daughter were in the house sleeping when the fire started, but they got out safely, Burgess said. The owner had insurance, he added.
