DEER ISLE – Thomas J. McGuire, 74, passed away Feb. 8, 2010, at his residence. He was born April 4, 1935, in Castine, a son of the late Robert J. and Eleanor (Hardy) McGuire. Thomas was a participant aboard the ship, Hero, participating in Operation Deep Freeze for the National Geographic Foundation with local shipmates, George Trundy and Steven Robbins. When he returned from that adventure, he worked in Deer Isle as a crane operator and for many years as an electrician at Billings’ Diesel and Marine. Then he went on to start his own electrical business, McGuire Electric, where he actively worked until he took ill. Thomas loved to travel with his family, as well as spend time on his fishing boat, lobstering – and, on too many occasions, repairing it – on Penobscot Bay. During the winter months, Thomas and his wife enjoyed spending time in Vero Beach, Fla. In his spare time, he enjoyed cracking complicated crossword puzzles and cheering his beloved Boston Red Sox. His dry sense of humor and his kindness will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Thomas was predeceased by his wife and mother of his three children, Naomi (Trundy) McGuire, in 1970; his siblings, Frank McGuire and Margaret Brush; and his granddaughter, Joselyn Naomi McGuire., Thomas’ stepdaughter, Sharon Ruth Pritchard, passed away in January 2010 in Connecticut. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judith “Peg” McGuire of Deer Isle; his three children, Thomas Benjamin McGuire and his wife, Kimberly, Joseph “Scott” McGuire and his wife, Tina, and Robert George McGuire and his wife, Cathy, all of Deer Isle; stepchildren, Robert Hutchinson and his wife, Vicky, of Princeton, N.J., and Lorrand Pritchard, husband of Sharon, of Milford, Conn.; and siblings, Janice Turner of Deer Isle, Paula Senecal and her husband, Robert, of Deer Isle, Susan Della and her husband, Charles, of Lakewood, Colo., and Robert McGuire of Dedham. Thomas will also be greatly missed by his four grandchildren, Tegan, Jacob, Isabella and Gracie. At the request of the family, funeral services will be held for Thomas in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hancock County Homecare and Hospice Blue Hill Office, P.O. Box 156, Blue Hill, ME 04614.
