LAMOINE, Maine — A structure fire Wednesday destroyed a small camp off Mud Creek Road, but did not result in any injuries, according to a local fire official.

The fire at Chickadee Lane was reported around 1:45 p.m. after a passing motorist on Mud Creek Road saw smoke billowing up from the woods where the camp was located, Assistant Fire Chief Stu Marckoon said. The fire had done most of its damage by the time fire-fighters from Lamoine and neigh-boring Hancock had arrived, he said.

“The building was pretty much gone,” Marckoon said. “There’s really nothing much left to save.”

He said a man who has been staying at the camp and the camp’s owner, William Pinkham, were not around at the time of the fire. He said he did not know if the dwelling was insured or what the monetary damage estimate from the fire might be.

Marckoon said the fire department has contacted the State Fire Marshal’s Office for help in deter-mining the cause of the blaze.

Approximately 20 firefighters from Lamoine and Hancock went to the fire, while firefighters in Franklin, Sorrento and Sullivan stood by at their stations to offer help if it was needed, according to Marckoon.
