MADAWASKA and EAGLE LAKE – Florida Vaillancourt, 96, died peacefully Feb. 4, 2010, at a Madawaska health care facility. She was born Oct. 5, 1913, at Eagle Lake, the daughter of Joseph and Locadie (Pinette) Vaillancourt. Florida worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 36 years. She served as postmistress from 1971 until her retirement in 1977. She was a member of National Association of Postmasters of the USA and National League of Postmasters. She was active in her faith, serving as Eucharistic minister at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Eagle Lake. She is survived by her sister, Stella Bouchard of Southington, Conn.; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Flavie Beaulieu. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated noon May 14 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Eagle Lake. Committal services will be after at the parish cemetery. Services are being handled by Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, 14 East Main St., Fort Kent.
