HERMON – Harold W. Carleton, 82, husband of Irene (Sanford) Carleton, passed away Feb. 2, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor nursing facility. He was born April 25, 1927, in Winterport, son of the late Raymond H. and Edna (Firestine) Carleton. Harold proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a pipe fitter for most of his life and was a member of United Association of Pipe Fitters, Union Local No. 321 and No. 716. Harold was a life member of Whitcomb-Baker VFW Post No. 4633, Hampden; Mystic Lodge No. 65, AF & AM, Hampden; and Anah Shrine, Bangor. He was proud of his family, and will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Irene of Hermon; children, James H. Carleton of Hermon, John W. Carleton of Levant, and Jeffrey A. Carleton and his fiancee, Jennifer Gendron, of Lewiston; grandchildren, Derrick Carleton and wife, Sara, Tonya Carleton and husband, Jeffrey Bryden, and Ashley Carleton; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary Carleton Bryden, Cole Bryden and Jayden Bryden. Harold is also survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Michael W. Carleton, Oct. 26, 1989; and by three sisters, Helen A. Carleton, Dorothy Rideout and Clara Baker. The family thanks the staff of Ross Manor and Hospice of St. Joseph for their kindness and support of Harold and his family during their time of need. Family and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, with Pastor Garnett Chute, of Hermon Baptist Church, officiating. Spring interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport.
