TOGUS – Burdette D. “Sonny” Miller, 90, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at the Veterans Administration Hospital. He was born Aug. 5, 1919, in Millinocket, the son of Burdette D. Miller Sr. and Emma F. Randall Miller. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Hawaii. He worked at Great Northern Paper Co., Millinocket, in the woodlands department. He was an avid outdoorsman. He spent most of his free time in the outdoors. He greatly loved dogs and enjoyed feeding the wild birds and squirrels. His last years were spent in the Bangor area, where for many years he enjoyed marching in the Veteran’s Day parade. He had a great appreciation for the veterans who served our country. He was predeceased by five sisters, Hazel Trueworthy, Ruth Husky, Edna Davis, Edith Fugate and Minnie St. Germaine; and one brother, Howard Miller. He is survived by two brothers Frank Miller of Framingham , Mass., and Dorrence Miller of Umatilla, Fla.; four sisters, Elsie Boutin of East Millinocket, Elizabeth Jameson of Zephyrhills, Fla., Mildred Hicks of North Pekin, Ill., and Marilyn Basque of Millinocket; several nieces and nephews; and a special great-niece, Laurie Schreier. A memorial service with military honors will be held at a date to be determined in the summer at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
