BANGOR and ORONO – James E. Cowan Sr., 79, died Feb. 1, 2010, at home amongst his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 5, 1930, in Orono, the son of Lester G. and Maude M. (Mishou) Cowan. He was a graduate of Orono High School, Class of 1948. He married Marilyn Young, Jan. 11, 1958. Jim was formerly employed with Brewer Savings Bank; Hillside Cleaners and Town Taxi. He was a former member and vice president of Bangor High Boosters Club. Jim enjoyed following all of his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved having everyone together for family gatherings. Jim was an avid Red Sox fan. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Marilyn; are eight children, Lynne Speed and her husband, Paul, Sherry Hanscom and her husband, Stan, Paula Smith and her husband, Ernie, Pam Look and her partner, Rick Wing, Jane Huston and her husband, Jim, Lester Cowan and his wife, Donna, Jim Cowan and his partner, Bruce Scott, and Allen Cowan and his wife, Caroline; 23 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Donald; two sisters, Barbara and Celeste; and two brothers, Donald and Richard.
