DIXMONT, Maine — Members of the town’s volunteer fire and rescue service are gearing up for an event they hope will bring in the bucks.
Winter Gala 2010 — a semiformal dinner, dance, raffle and auction — is set for 7 p.m.-midnight Friday, Jan. 29, at the Morgan Hill Event Center in Hermon, according to Stacey Marcouillier, a firefighter and emergency medical technician with Dixmont Fire and Rescue.
The event, she said, is aimed at raising money to buy and equip a rescue truck for first responders.
Since the last summer’s closure of Community Ambulance, which covered Dixmont, Etna, Newburgh and Plymouth, those four towns have been served by Capital Ambulance and the Sebasticook Valley Hospital ambulance from Pittsfield.
For Dixmont residents, that often means a wait of 25 to 30 minutes before the ambulance arrives, Marcouillier said.
Though they would not be able to transport patients, the first responders in Dixmont could reach people needing emergency medical attention more quickly and provide initial care until an ambulance from Capital or Sebasticook arrives, Marcouillier said.
For tickets, call Marcouillier at 341-6288 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Tickets also can be purchased from members of Dixmont’s fire and rescue squad and at Paul’s True Value Hardware in Brooks
Marcouillier said tickets for the buffet and dance are $25 each and must be purchased by Jan. 15. Tickets for the dance only are $15 and can be purchased at the door.
