By Walter Griffin

BELFAST, Maine — A Stockton Springs man has been charged with gross sexual assault on allegations he forced himself on a young woman as she slept.

Steve Watson, 52, of Mt. View Lane was arrested Friday by Waldo County Deputy Sheriff Ben Seekins. He was taken to the Waldo County Jail and later released on $1,000 bail.

Police Chief Jeffrey Trafton said Monday that the alleged assault occurred at a residence in Belfast on Nov. 17. He said the 18-year-old victim was asleep when the incident took place.

Patrolman Greg Stearns conducted the investigation and obtained the arrest warrant, Trafton said Monday.
