Jonesboro workshop destroyed in fire

JONESBORO, Maine — A quick-moving fire destroyed a home workshop Saturday evening in an outbuilding at the Larry and Lisa White home on U.S. Route 1.

Jonesboro Fire Chief Michael Schoppee said the fire was of undetermined origin and the building was in flames when the firefighters arrived.

No one was injured, according to Schoppee.

The 12-foot-by-16-foot shop had been used for wreath making, home repairs and other maintenance, Schoppee said. It was located about 100 feet from the Whites’ home.

Mutual aid at the scene was provided by firefighters from Columbia Falls, Jonesport and Machias. Firefighters from Machiasport and Marshfield were placed on standby.

Schoppee said he did not know whether the building was insured.
