WISCASSET, Maine — A former Wiscasset town clerk is going to jail for nine months for allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the town.

Sandra Johnson pleaded no contest in October to theft by deception. She was sentenced Thursday to six years behind bars, with all but six months suspended.

Lincoln County District Attorney Geoffrey Rushlau told The Times Record of Brunswick that Johnson must also pay $91,000 in restitution.

Johnson was arrested and fired as town clerk in October 2008.
