What else can be cut in the state budget?

A $400 million shortfall in revenues is projected by state officials for the biennial budget.

What else can be cut from to balance the shortfall in sales and income tax money, due to the recession? The two biggest pockets in the state budget are aid to local schools and social programs operated by the Department of Health and Human Services. Can these be

further slashed? What will be the fall-out if they are cut deeper? Will poor people die this winter, choosing between food, heat and medicine? Of is there room to cut? Is there any way schools can absorb cuts in state funding, or will the loss in money be passed onto the

property tax?
