SCARBOROUGH, Maine — The University of Maine-Fort Kent women’s soccer team will head west to Azusa, Calif., to compete in the opening round of the NAIA National Championship while the men will stay home to host an NAIA championship opening round match.
The women will play fourth- seeded Azusa Pacific while the men will host Indiana Institute of Technology on Saturday.
The UMFK women advance after a 6-0 win over SUNY-Canton in the Sunrise Conference Championship on Saturday. The men defeated the University of Maine-Machias 2-0 for the Sunrise Championship.
In the women’s game, Whitney Sinclair scored four goals to power 17-0 UMFK to the win. Marie-Pier Daze and Jamie Pelletier each added a goal. Mindy Morneault made two saves on eight shots.
Aubrey Parrish stopped four of 25 shots for SUNY-Canton.
In the men’s game, Jermaine West posted a goal and an assist to lead the Bengals (16-0-1). Keith Williams II scored the game-winner 18 minutes into the second half. Giovanni Sinclair faced no shots in goal.
Kyle Lanchaster made 10 saves on 31 shots for the Clippers.
