6 to be inducted into Maine sports hall of fame

ORONO, Maine — Former Maine women’s basketball coach Joanne Palombo-McCallie heads the list of six new inductees into the University of Maine’s Sports Hall of Fame.

Four men and two women are set to be inducted into the hall at an induction banquet Saturday night.

Palombo-McCallie coached the women’s basketball team from 1992 to 2000, leading them to six straight NCAA tournament appearances. She is now the coach at Duke University.

The other inductees are Keith Carney, who played hockey from 1988-91 and went on to a 19-year NHL career; Brad Colton, a baseball standout from 1980-83; William Calkin, a track-and-field letter winner from 1951-1955; Krystal Fogler, who was on the swim team from 1999-2002; and Roger Lapham, a 1979 graduate who played both basketball and football.
