LITTLETON, Maine — A Houlton man was killed Monday morning as the result of a single vehicle accident along Route 1.

According to information released Monday afternoon by Maine State Police Troop F, Barry Clark, 54, apparently fell asleep while driving his 1997 Chevrolet Blazer south in Littleton around 9:15 a.m.

The Blazer drifted across the northbound lane and off the road before striking a tree head-on.

Clark’s vehicle had extensive damage, and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The release did not indicate whether Clark was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Troopers Carmen Lilley and Jeff Clark went to the scene of the accident, which remains under investigation.
