By Rich Hewitt, BDN Staff

DEER ISLE — The crews of two disabled sailboats were rescued Saturday.

According to reports from the U.S. Coast Guard, one 20-foot sailboat with two people on board had nearly run aground near Northwest Harbor in Deer Isle at about 4:30 p.m. The op-erators were able to set out an anchor and a Good Samaritan towed them to a nearby moor-ing ball.

No one was injured.

In a separate incident, two people aboard a 22-foot sailboat reported they had a broken mast at about 4 p.m. on Satur-day. They were located halfway between Islesboro and North Haven islands. According to the Coast Guard, a commercial towing vessel was able to reach them and tow the boat to shore.

Reports of a boat adrift in the Penobscot River turned out to be a false alarm.
