BRIDGEWATER and HOULTON – Isabelle Myrtle (Porter) Allen, 95, went home to be with her Lord Sept. 25, 2009, at Madigan Estates. She was born June 16, 1914, the daughter of Guy and Edith (Long) Porter. She attended Monticello Grammar School and was a graduate of Ricker Classical Institute. Isabelle married A. Clair Allen and lived in the family homestead in Bridgewater, where they farmed until their retirement in 1974. She was very active in her church, teaching Sunday school, leading junior church and daily vacation Bible school. She enjoyed music very much and spent much time playing the piano and organ. She was a great lover of animals and raised white Persian cats for several years. Isabelle is survived by one son, Wayne A. Allen and his wife, Brenda, of Houlton; one granddaughter, Melinda Aube and her husband, James, of Washburn; one grandson, Gregory Allen and his wife, Terri, of Bridgewater; one great-granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Aube of Washburn; one great-stepgrandson, Joshua Aviles of Bridgewater; one sister, Betty Hammond of Syracuse, N.Y.; one brother, Alfred Porter of Milford; several special nieces and nephews. Isabelle was predeceased by her husband, A. Clair Allen in 1983; her brothers, Clifford, Cecil, Hollis and Henry Porter; and sisters, Mary Ross, Helen Moore, Georgie Stackhouse, Leola Taylor and twin, Iola Porter. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill, with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will take place after the service at Smith Cemetery, Bridgewater.
