Dead whale moved out to sea

OGUNQUIT, Maine — A dead whale that washed ashore in southern Maine was moved off the beach on Saturday and was headed out to sea.

The Portland Press Herald is reporting that crews used ropes, a boat and front loader to move the 20-foot minke whale into the water in Ogunquit.

Department of Marine Resources stranding coordinator Lynda Doughty says another boat was expected to tow the whale at least 10 miles out to sea.

The whale appeared to have been dead for several weeks, but the cause of death is unknown.
