AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Democratic Party says it will hold its 2010 state convention in Lewiston.
The convention will be held on May 21 and 22 at the Colisee, the Multi-Purpose Center and the city’s high school.
Party Executive Director Arden Manning says Lewiston was chosen because the city will be crucial for Democrats’ success in 2010 and because party leaders were impressed with the city’s proposal to host the gathering.
Manning says Lewiston in many ways is the heart of the Maine Democratic Party, with a long history of supporting Democratic candidates.
Party conventions, held every two years, showcase candidates, produce the party platforms and serve as a major organizing event. The last time a state Democratic convention was held in Lewiston was in 1984.
