JONESPORT, Maine — Maine lobstermen are talking about organizing a statewide boat tie-up in hopes of raising prices.
Lobstermen from across Washington County gathered in Jonesport on Sunday to organize the protest, which they hope will bolster prices that are now around $2.35 per pound.
Lobstermen say that at those prices, they can’t afford the expenses they must pay to fish. They want to talk to leaders of each lobstering zone to rally the fishermen along the coast for a boat tie-up they hope they can start next Monday.
The lobstermen say they’re hoping to get prices up to $3.25 to $3.50 per pound.
