Combustion of fossil fuel now contributes 6 billion tons of carbon into the atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide each year. Six thousand billion tons of carbon are still in the earth in the form of coal, oil and natural gas. The tolerance of the atmosphere for the current 6 billion tons is being debated. There is no debate over the potential tolerance for a significant fraction of the remaining 6,000 billion tons.
